Corporate Tax Audit Survival — A View of the IRS Through Corporate Insider Eyes

From the author:
This is the first book devoted exclusively to the Large and Mid-Size Business Division (LMSB) of the Internal Revenue Service. I wanted to write this book to accomplish an important personal objective: to bring an external perspective to the inner workings of LMSB. As a senior level industry executive invited to join the IRS for a maximum four-year term, I thought my observations would be unique and valuable to both the taxpayer community and to people within the IRS and other government agencies.

One part of the book addresses the concerns of senior level industry executives considering government service. I wanted to alert them to the pros and cons of such a decision. Another part of the book explores ways in which industry and the IRS can improve relations. Considerable space is devoted to a discussion of ways that audits can be streamlined to save a company staff time and money. I also discuss advocacy before the IRS and Congress and how this can offer potential benefits to taxpayers.

I believe this book will be a useful guide for the corporate tax community and for the accounting and law firms that serve them.

Beyond High Tech Survival — Turning Government Policy Into International Profits

We are in troubling waters. Many of the economic trends are disturbing. Perhaps as many as one-third of our companies will not survive the next five years. Companies will need to be nimble.

Your company may have leading edge research and development capability, the lowest manufacturing costs, an insatiable market demand, and the best marketing and sales team in your industry, and yet unforeseen government policies could slash your sales and take your bottom line from black to red.

What are the major government policies facing U.S. corporations today? How can we use government policy to help our survival? More importantly, how can we turn government policy into international profits?

This edition of Beyond High Tech Survival was undertaken to help the business community (primarily company management) get a better handle on the major public policy issues impacting the sales, cash flow and profits of their companies. This book is meant to be your survival guide as you come upon government policies that may mean opportunities or disaster.

High Tech Survival — The Impact of Government on High Tech and Biotech Companies

What are the major public policy issues facing the high tech and biotech sectors of American business? Are these the same issues that affect companies in other industries? In this book I have attempted to set forth the most significant public policy issues for these sectors. Some of the most important issues affect the work place, employee compensation, retirement plans, securities litigation, antitrust, domestic taxation, and intellectual property. Others, such as customs, export controls, trade laws, and international tax policies, impact international trade and competitiveness. High Tech Survival was undertaken to help this community (primarily company management) get a better handle on the major public policy issues impacting their companies. This is the first book of its kind to define the critical public policy issues for these two industry sectors.
