About Our Wine

The goal of Olive Hill Lane Press is to be among the best producers of premium 100% cabernet sauvignon in California. Blessed with good soil, a gently sloping hillside and long sun exposure, the grapes from Olive Hill Lane Press are hand-picked, barreled in only the finest new premium French oak for eighteen months, and put in the bottle for another six months before release. The cabernet sauvignon wines of Olive Hill Lane Press are beautifully delicious upon release and will continue to improve for many years into the future.

The cabernet sauvignon grapes that go into this wine come from a three-acre
estate on Olive Hill Lane in Woodside, California. The vineyard, planted in
1996, consists of 360 vines and an adjoining wine arbor that occupy about one
acre of the estate. Only grapes from our Olive Hill Lane vineyard go into our wines. In 2011 we will be augmenting our limited supply of cabernet sauvignon grapes with cabernet sauvignon grapes from a nearby vineyard on Olive Hill Lane. With the addition of these new grapes, we will be able to produce about 100 cases annually, starting with our 2009 harvest to be delivered to customers in the fall of 2011.

In 2004 we commenced the sale our new Olive Hill Lane Press 100% cabernet sauvignon wines after encouragement from friends that had tried our private bottlings.

We were further encouraged by a blind bottle tasting of our 2001 harvest at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose where our wine was compared to Sonoma Valley’s BR Cohn’s 2001 Olive Hill Vineyard Estate. This ultra-premium wine had recently received a rating of 91 in the Wine Enthusiast magazine. The five wine judges from the Fairmont Hotel’s Grill Restaurant told us we won by a vote of five to zero, and they said the comparison was not close.

Since this tasting, we have had several others. We have won blind tastings against Silver Oak Alexander Valley, Arrowood Reserve Speciale, Joseph Phelps Insignia, and Alpha Omega.

Unfortunately, we are sold out of the 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 Olive Hill Lane Press cabernet sauvignon. With our small acreage, the wine typically is subscribed almost a year in advance of shipping by a customer base that exceeds our available cases.

The 2008 harvest subscribers’ list is now full, but you may wish to add your name to a waiting list in the event an opening arises. The wine will be sold only in half-case and full-case lots, and it should be ready for shipping in the fall of 2010. The price of the 2008 vintage is $55 per bottle plus applicable California sales tax for in-state purchases and a shipping and handling charge. We have recently started our harvest subscriber’s list for our 2009 harvest. The wine will be sold only in half-case and full-case lots, and it should be ready in the fall of 2011. The price of the 2009 vintage is $60 per bottle plus applicable California sales tax for in-state purchases and a shipping charge.
